Speaking in an interview with media from Poland (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski has claimed that he may very well retire at the Catalan club in the near future, stating that he and his family feel very comfortable there.

Lewandowski joined Barça only last summer, arriving from Bayern Munich. The Poland captain soon became a fan favourite at the club and was critical to the Blaugrana’s La Liga and Spanish Super Cup triumph this past season.

The former Bayern Munich ace even won the Pichichi Trophy for the most goals scored in La Liga in 2022/23 (23 goals), beating Karim Benzema to the award.

A key part of the plans at Barcelona, Lewandowski found himself being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. However, he was quick to dismiss those claims and has now hinted that he might as well call time on his career at Barça in the near future.

“My retirement? It’s close. It is very possible that I will finish my career in Barcelona, where I and my family feel very comfortable,” Lewandowski said.

Even though he won the Pichichi Trophy and finished with 33 strikes in all competitions, Lewandowski was of the opinion that he scored a few goals lesser than he would have liked, as he had to adapt to a new role at the club.

“I felt I scored five or six goals less because I had to do other things. My role was important not only on the pitch but also off it, I had to fit in a new role,” he stated.

But the 34-year-old striker expects to return to ‘normality’ next season.

Talking about the next season, Lewandowski admitted that it will be a challenge for Barcelona to maintain the same level in La Liga and step up their efforts in European competitions.

“We need to show a better game in the Champions League, because it is the only significant drawback of the season,” he acknowledged.

The Barcelona striker also reserved words of praise for his manager Xavi Hernandez, saying: “He has his vision of football and knows how he wants to operate. He knows what we have to do every moment. He is a coach who is making great strides and constantly developing.”
